A surprise find in the young stock field today.
There isn’t supposed to be any pregnant heifers in here. Just about 30 weaned 12-24 month olds steers (castrated bulls) and heifers.
But we found this when checking them this morning.
Her mother has moved off with the rest of the herd and will come back later so the calf was literally curled up and playing dead and for a long moment we thought she was.
Our Prefix is Ullswater so this would be Ullswater and only the females are named apart from the bulls we keep for breeding.
We need to find a name for her so a good time for an impromptu competition, if you would like to suggest any please feel free. A £150 meat box for the winning entry. Open until the 25th August for guesses...
