These are the boned out ribs of a 6 year old Shorthorn cow. Really nice fat cover, marbling and colour.
Often people use the euphemism ‘retired’ for this kind of cattle. But the reality is there is no retirement in livestock, they are either pregnant, have a calf at foot, or with the bull or as the case here didn’t fall pregnant within a few cycles of her calf being weaned. This is known in these parts as a Geld cow. An old Norse term meaning barren. So she went to slaughter. This is best time of year to make this call as she had a full summer on grass, is lovely and fat after weaning and one less to over-winter where her fat cover will deteriorate as less nutrients in cut crop like silage or hay.
Will have a strong meaty, grass fed taste. May have a couple of steaks left. Dm to enquire if interested.
